2010 NRL Season Preview - Newcastle Knights

The 2010 Newcastle Knights have the 'appearance' of a good footy team.

Jarrod Mullen is one of the NRL's best halfbacks, Cory Paterson is a force. They dont have the distraction of Danny Wicks trying to 'do business' at training. Their forward pack has some sting and they have the "spine" to play quality footy with Isaac De Gois and possibly Scott Dureau in the 9 and 6 positions respectively.
In addition, Kurt Gidley is a warrior and one of this blogs favourite 1st graders and finally, their cheerleaders are famous.

Another Hawkins? Knights 1st graders hope so.

It’s all good in the Hunter. Unfortunately something lurks beneath the surface that questions Newcastle's position as a contender in 2010. It could be depth in the playing roster. Historically they have not recovered well from injuries and their form has suffered.

Personally, I tend to think the problem this year will be the playing surface at Energy Australia Stadium.

It seems to be covered with some strange white powder that makes the Novocastrians do crazy things. D. Wicks must have had a few holes in his pockets and the old 'home ground advantage' doesn’t instil the same fear in opponents as it used to.

Where did I leave that other bag?

This raises many questions:
Is the position of curator for the Knights' home ground the most sought after job in Newcastle? Must be.
Is Junior Sau doing his best Elvis impersonation in this profile photo? Surely, and we all know how Elvis died.
Can I make any more jokes about drugs and/or Danny Wicks? No. I've run out of steam already.
Will Jarrod Mullen play a full season? The Knights’ success depends on it.
Is Constantine Mika the owner of the greatest name in 1st grade? No doubt, and judging by his favourite movie on this player profile, there is a softer side to the big fella.

"pink elephants all over the place!!!!"

Tip - All jokes aside, this team looks fantastic on paper and is a massive chance to make the playoffs.
X Factor – Cory Paterson. A weapon when he is in form and looks ready to go this year.
Premiership odds - $26.00 - If I had any large wads of cash hidden in my house, I would have a punt on them. (seems I had enough left for one more)
Breakout season - Junior Sau. Established himself as a solid 1st grader in 2009 but I think he goes one step further this year and becomes one of the most lethal centres in the game. Also, keep an eye on Rodney Mason in the under 20s competition.
