2010 NRL Season Preview - Manly Sea Eagles

Captain Jamie Lyon.
Has a nice ring to it, yes?
No.

For all NSW Origin supporters who had to watch an imbecilic selection committee pick this bloke to represent our state, we wish manly all the best (or do we?). He didn’t want to play origin, saw it as a chore and showed no pride in the blue jersey: Fine, that’s his prerogative - who am I to judge the bloke?... but how could the selectors pick him knowing all this?

I pray that Manly fans do not have to deal with this potential slap in the face and that Jamie Lyon maintains his commitment to your team.

Trust issues?

Then again, maybe I dont. As a league fan there are two things I must do, 1) hate Manly and 2) never break the time honoured tradition of hating Manly.

Moving on, the eagles could find things difficult this year. An intense coach and willing forward pack will win them a few games but obviously there will be some teething problems at the halfback position.

Outside of this dilemma, other questions remain:
Will Brett Stewart end up playing touch footy during exercise time in Block D? Hope not.

The Eagles are 10 points a game worse off without this bloke.

Have any league fans other than myself felt slightly unwelcome at Brookvale Oval? Those of us who have made the trip to brooky will know the answer to this. For readers who haven’t.... It’s dark and angry and no place for anyone living outside the insular peninsular.
Will Steve Matai be able to pull himself away from filming the movie version of The Hair Bear Bunch? Judging by this profile picture, no.
Will the Wolfman be smiling like this when he gets picked for NSW again this year? I hope so, because there will be pressure from many a jaded blues fan.

"I just found a chicken wing in my beard"

Tip - Off field distractions plus blooding a new halfback means they miss the eight.
X Factor – George Rose. He looked fantastic in the All-Stars match and their pack needs plenty of go-forward for a new halfback to have any success.
Premiership odds - $13.00 - I'm sure that the Northern Beaches folk aren’t pinching pennies: so have a crack people.
Breakout season - Will Hopoate. We've been hearing great things about this kid for ages and I can’t wait to watch him play.
